Our Work

 SheConnects Ministries was founded on the premise that women greatly impact the lives of their families, and if their lives change and they become empowered through the “connections” and “networks” that SheConnects Ministries will help them to discover, their families and communities will change. The purpose of SheConnects Ministries is to connect women with experiences that help them discover (or uncover) the spiritual, personal, and educational factors that will help to improve their stations in life.  Because 35% of single women with children live and raise their families in poverty in America, it is important to think of ways to empower women with the attitude, skills and resources to address this crisis within our communities. When low-wage jobs, lack of child care, care-giving responsibilities of elder family members, abuse or violence permeates a woman’s daily life (and most probably the life of a woman in poverty), it is difficult for her to grasp what she needs to come out of her situation and help her family—she is living in the cycle of getting by day to day. Therefore, SheConnects Ministries is poised to help women (single or married) to uncover the dormant creativity within, help her develop her full potential, and engage in experiences that will allow her to gain all she needs to obtain life-sustaining skills that lead to career, college or entrepreneurial pursuits. We do this within a Christian context, although we accept women of all faiths.

How Classes Work

The program is offered three times a year—Fall, Winter and Spring—and serves approximately 20 women per class. Classes are held for 12 weeks. Additionally, there are opportunities for apprenticeships as well as internships. Classes may be face-to-face or online. Each class is taught by volunteers who are experts or leaders in their field.

Types of Classes

Spiritual Development. These classes focus on developing spiritual muscle and consists of Bible study, prayer, discussion, journaling and reflection.

Personal Development. These classes focus on helping women gain an understanding of themselves, what has influenced their decision-making, and how new mindsets can be developed to help them make better choices to improve their lives.  Class topics include executive functioning, setting boundaries, developing healthy relationships, effective communication, health and nutrition, personal management, financial management, parenting skills, and personal life planning.

Educational Development.  These micro-learning classes focus on academic skills, work-related behaviors (e.g. collaboration, leadership, business ethics and etiquette), job preparation and workplace literacy using an AI embedded job approach.  Additionally, participants can take GED  test prep classes, adult basic education, ESL, and specific industry certification classes such as those in the computer/IT industry as well as some health-related fields.

Entrepreneurial  and Social Enterprise Exploration.  This component of the program provides training in every aspect of entrepreneurship and social enterprise from developing or refining a product, conducting needs assessment and market analysis, to pitching their idea and writing a business plan, with opportunities to sell their product or service at various events
